It's been a rollercoaster ride!
A lot has happened since Nemesis+Apollo started doing business from the Herengracht in Amsterdam. 2010 saw us having the official launch of the Artists Not Armies website- something we are very proud of. In particular we would like to thank the people from Edberry.com; GoldenPorsche.com and AnnoMMX.com for realising this project. Apart from Artists Not Armies- Atelier Alexander Tempel has been doing good business- too; since the Coffee Company has joined in to be part of Atelier Alexander Tempel Exhibitions. Plus: work by Alexander Tempel is soon to be sold at TheArtTree.com
Our biggest event this year has been the NACHTWACHT event. On April the 15th Nemesis+Apollo co-creative directed the first NACHTWACHT party with partners Fromanteel Watches Amsterdam under co-sponsorship of Artists Not Armies.
This is what we do: we set up creative directions- be it in Art- Fashion or Events. We further people's ambitions by providing a platform on which they can cooperate.
New exhibitions; products and events are on the way. We feel it's great to be able to make money while at the same time being truly creative.
Artists Not Armies + Ongekend
From the wednesday the 12th of May onwards Artists Not Armies was co-sponsor of Ongekend.nu; an auction of art from up and coming artists in Rotterdam. The auction has been a great succes and will be held again next year.
The Rooms of Time Event
On the 24th of January Atelier Alexander Tempel was part of the Rooms of Time Event at Hotel V Amsterdam. Over fifty people attended from the media- art and business worlds. Strong networkers were also invited. Each guest was asked to hand in their watch and phone and was given a tag. Hostesses escorted them to a particular room in the hotel were three types of watches- drinks and art were represented. In the lobby Loggia Import made sure everyone had a prosecco (or two) and Cookinn catered the event. Bishkek Vodka invited people to try a little vodka with some bread.
New connections were made and the event was a great success. Team Nemesis+Apollo and Atelier Alexander Tempel are looking forward to the next event! Stay in touch and make sure you are invited.
The road to happiness by Alexander Tempel
There is no high culture and low culture. There's only high culture. The rest is not of consequence. There is no great love and on the other hand availability. There's only great love- even though it is not reprociated. I've worked on projects that failed miserably- set up companies that failed I mean-however I learned. And I moved on. Confronted my fears of not being part of the moment- being left out. Being alone. That's why I enjoy it immensely when I meet my friends- when I know my business is succeeding (and good luck to me it seems to be working out after all) and that's why I am happy when I know that my great love is happy even though I am only a small part of it and I may never see him again.
It's the challenge of every human being to live like an artist. The fiction of your ideas construct your everyday life- it sets out who you want to be- what you aspire to and that in itself will tell you who you are. The things you try to conceal reveal who you are like nothing else does.
Remember the first time you had a success? Be it socially- financially or in a romantic sense. It expired and you had to move on. What's next? Are you trying to repeat your past or will you change your history by making your future? Be careful who you are doing it with- be careful of the persona you are trying to create.
Most people do not like to be challenged. They prefer watching television. They prefer going to the zoo. They prefer to stand still. Unconsiously I have created a social environment of creative and intelligent people around me who say what they think and are always thinking about the next step. Tell me about the last time you were inspired. Tell me about when you were genuinely moved by something that happened. Are you ever angry? Do you fight? When was the last time you felt a great exhilaration? Life is too short to think in small conceited worlds. Life's too short to not be who you are. You meet new people- learn what they have learned- sometimes you outgrow eachother- sometimes you keep travelling the same roads.
There's only one way to be happy and that's by falling in love and working hard. That's all you need.
'In a way I had been exclusively taken care of by my creativity but then I had to move on. To paraphrase Willem de Kooning: I have to change in order to stay the same'. Alexander Tempel
